Silence Please
Behind all creation is silence. Silence is the essential condition, the vital ingredient for all creation and all that is created. It is a power in its own right. The artist starts with a blank canvas — silence. The composer places it between and behind the notes. Silence is the very ground of your being, out of which comes all your thoughts. The way to silence is through meditation. When you arrive in your own silence, you will know true freedom and a real power. Stop, take a minute, and listen to the silence within you today.
The soul has three faculties (energies):
- The mind through which we create thoughts.
- The intellect with which we understand, judge, and decide.
- And the sanskaras are impressions in the form of memories, personality characteristics, and habits.
All three work together: The mind is influenced by external and internal factors, which can be either positive or negative. The intellect has to understand, judge, and decide what something means and then act. If the intellect is unclear or confused, then understanding and decisions are faulty, and consequently, actions and behavior result in a lot of negativity for the self and others.
Throughout history, teachers have come to give spiritual knowledge, through which they attempt to awaken people’s consciousness to make relationships, attitudes, thoughts, and actions more positive and loving. For this to happen, there has to be a ‘click’ in the intellect, that is, a realization and willingness to change old habits and negative personality characteristics and to become better ethically and spiritually.
Change is the result of the third eye (intellect) opening.
The Power #1 Of Silence: My Favorite Example To Aid Self Realization
One of the comparisons which help in self-realization, i.e., in strengthening the awareness that I, the soul, non-physical energy, am different from this physical body, is that of the driver and the car, where the driver represents the spiritual energy and the car represents the body which is controlled by the spiritual energy. The biggest reason why I do not have the desired control over my physical body, my vehicle, and my sense organs today is that I lost the consciousness of being a driver who could control and rule the vehicle. Instead, I developed the consciousness that I am this vehicle, this physical body. This consciousness disconnected me from the ability and the power I possessed inside me to control the vehicle. If I want to achieve the desired control, I need to be in a driver-consciousness, i.e., in the awareness that I am a soul and my body is a vehicle through which I experience life. Being in this awareness, in this consciousness, awakens me and empowers me to regain the much-required control over my body.
The car controls are the gears, brakes, accelerator, and steering wheel, which can be compared to the sense organs of the soul, which are the mind, intellect, and sanskaras, and those of the body, which are the eyes, ears, nose, hands, and tongue. A good driver is one who remains extremely alert and can use the gears, brakes, accelerator and steering wheel effectively and efficiently to fully control the vehicle and avoid any accidents. In the same way, as I move on the road of life, I need to keep my mental and physical sense organs (mentioned above) in complete control. If I do that, they will keep my journey enjoyable and take me to my desired destination of mental peace and happiness safely and successfully. Accidents will definitely occur if I don’t do that and let them overpower me, making me peaceless and sorrowful.
The Power #2 Of Silence: Do You Think You Can Accommodate?
Closely linked to the power of tolerance, the power to accommodate means having a heart so big and generous that I can rise above all differences of character and personality while interacting with other soul actors, knowing that every actor in the enormous drama of existence has a unique personality, contribution, and role to play. Whereas tolerance heals wounds and removes hurt, accommodation accepts and values differences, observing them and ultimately absorbing them in my love, as an ocean absorbs the rivers that flow into it. While completing my own part as a river, I also need to be aware of God as the Ocean of Love and the Ocean of Wisdom and me as the master Ocean of Love. When I enter this consciousness through meditation, the goodness of all other soul actors becomes clear to me very naturally, and it is no effort for me to go beyond conflict and clashes of opinion.
I become like my father, the Supreme Soul, who is an Ocean of Love. My father sees every actor in this world of drama as his child, and his love is the same for each one of them (even though they have different personalities and roles) because he has the spiritual knowledge that every soul’s original nature is loveful and the present nature is just an artificial one which has been acquired while coming into the process of birth and rebirth. In the same way, I also experience myself as a master Ocean Of Love and see all souls as my brothers and absorb their different natures. This is the power to accommodate, which I can inculcate inside me through the practice of meditation.
Message for the day
To remain happy is to truly live life.
What it tells you: Life has meaning when there is happiness in living. Everything that happens brings something new. The more the mind is tuned to see and appreciate this truth; there is the more happiness that lasts — whatever the situation may be. The constantly happy one can creatively use all the resources correctly and make others happy.
What you should experience: When I can maintain my internal state of happiness under all circumstances, I can enjoy the beauty of life. I am only able to see the positive in each and everything and also only the specialties and goodness in everyone. I am never let down by situations, people, or their reactions, but enjoy everything.
